Loveseat Dimensions: How Long Is a Loveseat? 16 Real Loveseats Measured

A loveseat is 48 to 72 in long, most 52 to 66 in, and about as deep as a sofa. Sizes of 16 real loveseats, their seat widths, and how much room one needs.

THE SHORT ANSWER

A loveseat is 48 to 72 inches long, and most are 52 to 66. Apart from the length it's sized like a sofa: about 32 to 40 inches deep and 26 to 36 inches tall, with the seat 17 to 18 inches off the floor. Check the seat width as well as the length: on the loveseats we measured, the arms take 8⅝ to 25¼ inches of it.

Standard loveseat size

Wayfair's sofa guide says a loveseat, a two-seat sofa, differs from a full-size sofa mainly in length. The other measurements follow the sofa ranges:

"Loveseat" is a seat count, not a size. Ten of the sixteen are longer than Wayfair's common 66 inches, and five are longer than 72. The KIVIK loveseat, at 74¾ inches, is longer than IKEA's GULLVALLA sofa (71⅝).

Seat width: how much of it you sit on

Arms can take a lot of the length. Subtract the seat width from the overall length and the arms on these loveseats take from 8⅝ inches (GULLVALLA) to 25¼ (STOCKHOLM 2025, whose arms are 12⅝ inches each).

So a slim-armed loveseat can seat two in less floor. The 55⅞-inch GULLVALLA has a 47¼-inch seat, wider than the 70⅛-inch STOCKHOLM 2025's 44⅞. If two adults will sit side by side, compare seat widths, not lengths.

Depth and seat height

The loveseats above run from 30⅜ to 39 inches deep, about the same spread as full-size sofas. A shallow, upright one like the ROCKSJÖN leaves more floor; a deep, low one like the STOCKHOLM 2025 is for lounging. Wayfair suggests a higher, deeper seat for tall people, and seat height matters less for shorter ones.

How much room a loveseat needs

  • In front: 30 inches of walking room if people pass in front (Wayfair). A 35-inch-deep loveseat then takes 65 inches from the wall.
  • Coffee table: about two-thirds of the loveseat's length, so 39 inches for a 58-inch loveseat. See coffee table dimensions.
  • On the way in: measure the doorways and hallways it has to pass through (Wayfair), then check it with Will it fit through the door?
